The job
A yellow-brick Victorian terrace off the Bristol Road in Gloucester: slipped and missing slates, moss in every course, and lead flashing round the chimney that had given up years ago. Severn Slate scaffolded the front, stripped the old slate, laid breathable membrane and new treated battens, re-slated in natural Spanish slate, and re-leaded the stack. Eight working days, weather allowing.
The problem
Roofing is a trust purchase that homeowners can't see. They're on the ground; the work is thirty feet up. Severn Slate do it properly — membrane, battens, the lot — but on a quote sheet that looks identical to the firm that patches and runs. They were losing jobs to cheaper quotes that cut the corners nobody could see.
What one job became
The roofer took photos from the scaffold as the job went — the state of the old roof, the membrane and battens going on, the finished slate — and sent a voice note on the drive home. From that:
- A case study page showing exactly what goes under the slates, and why it matters
- A before, during and after set — the during shots are the ones that win the argument
- A Google Business post, so the next Gloucester search for a roofer finds recent, local, visible work
- A review request for the homeowner, sent the day the scaffold came down

From the pavement, a good roof and a bad one look the same for about three winters. This is what the difference looks like from the scaffold.

Why it works
Most roofing quotes ask the homeowner to take the hidden work on trust. A Job Story shows it. When the next customer is comparing three prices, Severn Slate can send the photos of what's under the slates — and the cheapest quote starts to look like what it is.
This is a concept project: the business is made up to show what a Job Story looks like. The thinking, writing and standard are exactly what you'd get.
